Trekking Trip to Kayan Tribe Village (13 Days/12 Nights)

DAY 1: Arrived Yangon

trekking-yangon-01Upon your arrival in Yangon, our guide will meet you and escort you to your hotel. After a short rest, we will go to visit Shwedagon Pagoda and try to catch the fabulous sunset there. You will have a chance to watch the color changing over 40 tons of gold leaf.

DAY 2: Yangon - Bagan (By flight)

trekking-bagan-01This morning you will be escorted to airport for your flight to Bagan. Upon your arrival, you will start to visit the Nyaung-U Market and continue the day with visits to the most significant pagodas and temples of Bagan including Shwezigon Pagoda; the prototype for later Myanmar pagodas built by King Anawrahta, Kyansitha Umin; a tunnel with interesting paintings, Thatbyinnyu Temple; the highest building on the Bagan plain and Ananda temple, an architectural masterpiece resembling a Greek Cross;Htilominlo Temple; noted for its plaster carvings and the largest temple of Bagan.

After lunch, visit to one of Myanmar most treasured handicrafts, a lacquer-ware workshop. Then continue to Manuha Temple; built in Mon style in 1059 and Nanpaya temple; a unique sandstone monument. Next you will explore the Myingaba Gu Byaukgyi Temple; a temple noted worthy for its mural paintings of Jataka scenes under the protection of UNESCO and go to watch the sunset over the Shwesandaw Pagoda. DAY 3: Bagan

This morning, we start a scenic drive to Mount Popa. Along the way, stop by a local village to learn about local culture and lifestyle. For the energetic, there is time to climb up 777 steps to the shrine at the top of the volcanic plug. Have a lunch at a hill resort. On the way back to Bagan, visit a palm sugar workshop.

DAY 4: Bagan - Mandalay (By flight)

trekking-mandalay-01After breakfast at hotel, transfer to Nyaung U airport for the flight Mandalay. Up on arrival proceed to Amarapura; 11 km from Mandalay,visit to Mahagandayon Monastery where more than a thousand monks live and study the Buddha scripture. If time allow you will have the opportunity to observe the monks having their last meal of the day in total silence. Continue to have a walk on 162 years old and 1.2 km long U BEIN teak bridge; noted for building without nails built in 1849 at the time when Amarapura was Royal capital. Then excursion to Inwa (Ava); a historical capital in 1364. After crossing over the Myit Nge river, visit by horse-cart carriage to Nanmyint Watch Tower, Maha Aungmye Bonzan Monastery; built of brick and stucco and Bagayar Monastery; famous for its impressive woodcarvings and teak poles. Continue to Saggaing Hill; a retreat for Buddhist devotees and have a panoramic view of Ayeyarwaddy river.Then proceed to Mandalay for overnight.

DAY 5: Mandalay – Mingun – Mandalay

trekking-mingun-01After breakfast excursion to Mingun, about 11 km up-river from Mandalay. Cross the Ayeyarwaddy River by boat nearly one hour. Visit around Mingun especially for well-known Mingun Bell; 90 tons in weight, the largest ringing bell in the world, unfinished huge Mingun Pagoda, Settawya Pagoda and Hsinbyume Pagoda. Then, return to Mandalay. The afternoon's tour includes some of the city's most interesting temples and palaces. Begin with Mahamuni Pagoda, the image enshrined here is perhaps the most venerated image in Myanmar, covered in over 15 cm thickness of gold leaf, Shwenandaw Monastery (Shwe Kyaung), the Golden Teak Monastery. Built entirely of golden teak, this intricately carved wooden monastery was once a part of the Mandalay Palace, used as private apartments by King Mindon and his chief queen. Then to Kuthodaw Pagoda, known also as the world’s biggest book. Around the central stupa are miniature pavilions, each housing a slab of a marble. Numbering altogether 729, these slabs are inscribed with the entire Tri pitaka or Buddhist scriptures. Continue to Kyauktawgyi Pagoda, famous for its monumental seated Buddha, carved from a single block of marble. Finally, enjoy the spectacular sunset at Mandalay Hill, 230 meters in elevation, commands a magnificent view of the city and surrounding countryside. Overnight stay at the hotel in Mandalay.

DAY 6: Mandalay - Heho (By flight), Heho - Pindaya – Inle Lake (By car)

trekking-pindaya-01After breakfast, transferred to the airport for the flight to Heho. Then proceed to Pindaya by road, 65 km far with 2 hrs drive and visit to Pindaya Cave; a unique site housing thousands of Buddha images placed there by pilgrims over the centuries. Continue to Nyaung Shwe, 95 km far with 3 hrs drive and transfer to hotel. Overnight in Inle.

DAY 7: Inle Lake

trekking-inle-01After the breakfast at the hotel, the whole day sightseeing to Inle lake, including Indaing village, the western end of the Lake. The boat takes you through a long channel where you watch the farmers cultivate their products. This ride is one of the most scenic boat tours on Lake Inle. After lunch, visit to the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, one of the famous principal shrines in Myanmar, this pagoda houses five small Buddha images. Once a year, in end September or early October, there is its pagoda festival during which the four Buddha images are rowed around the Lake in a colourful barge. Then visit to the old Nga Phe Chaung Monastery, known as for the jumping cats’ monastery. If time allows, stop to see silk weaving on wooden handlooms. And also visit to the local blacksmiths workshops. Overnight at the hotel in Inle.

DAY 8: Inle Lake - Samker - Loikaw

trekking-loikaw-01After breakfast, we will start our boat trip to Hpe-Kom, the last lake of Inle. On the way we will visit Samker village, famous for more than 400 pagodas and stupas on its land. Have lunch on the lake and continue our boat ride to Hpe-Kom. Admire the beautiful, lush scenery on boat side of this lake. Inle´s calm waters are dotted with floating vegetation, fishing canoes and bamboo houses will free your hassle away. We will reach Hpe-kom and after 1 hour driving, arrive Loikaw, the capical of Kayah State.

Check in hotel in Loikaw, we will visit the Kayah museum to study the traditional way of living of the Kayah people. At late evening, we will proceed to Thiri Mingalar Taung Kwe Zedi, the landmark of the Kayah State, to enjoy panoramic view of Loikaw and its surroundings at sunset time. We will then have dinner and overnight in Loikaw.

DAY 9: Loikaw – Panpat

One hour transfer by car brings you to Pa Say Lar Village in Dee Maw Soe Township to jump off our wonderful 6 hours trek to Panpet Village, the origin place of the Kayan (Padaung) tribe. Take time so see the long neck “giraffe” woman. There are about 20 – 25 houses in the village that the woman still wear the bronze coils around their neck. Taste the local wine while visiting the house and talking to the ethnic tribe to get better knowledge about their history. Start trekking in the midst of beautiful and breathtaking wide range of mountains. A lunch box will be served on the way.

After Panpat, drive back to Dee Maw Soe and a short stop at Ngwe Taung Dam before returning to your hotel for a rest. We will finish the evening by enjoying your choice of coffee, fruit juice or beer at one of the many coffee shops surrounding Nyaung Yar Lake. Locals descend on the lake in the early evening to take in the cool weather, row boats and lively atmosphere.

DAY 10: Loikaw – Hta Nee La Leh

After breakfast, drive to Hta Nee La Leh. Visit to Kayhtoebo site and hunting shrine to learn about local beliefs and spiritual life. In addition, visit the lotus pond, this is a sacred and scenic site. And to the scenic 7 lakes relax by the lake and enjoy the forested and mountain scenery.

DAY 11: Loikaw – Kalaw

After breakfast at the hotel and leaving for Loikaw to Kalaw, many ethnic groups and colorful plantation could be seen and photo stop could be done at Pinlaung and visit market.

And then Myin Ma Hti cave can be explored on the way to Kalaw if time is not limited. Overnight at hotel in Kalaw.

DAY 12: Kalaw – Heho (By car), Heho – Yangon (By flight)

Breakfast at hotel and transfer to Heho airport for your flight to Yangon. Upon arrival, we explore the city of Yangon from the Chauk Htat Gyi Pagoda. You will pay a stroll at the Maha Bandoola Park with Maha Bandoola Garden to see colonial-style high court and city hall. Afternoon shopping to the Bogyoke Market (Scotts market) with hundreds of food, clothes, handicrafts and gems store.
DAY 13: Yangon departure

After breakfast, we will escort you to the airport for your flight.
